I guess it doesn't matter if you vote for a
Republican or a Democrat. They are still going
to steal your money an micromanage your life.
Congressman David Schweikert replaced Congressman Harry Mitchell and he seems to be just as much of a tax and spend royal tyrant as Harry Mitchell was. Letter to the editor East Valley Tribune Letters: Schweikert didn’t take long to forget pledges Posted: Wednesday, February 2, 2011 2:45 am Congressman Schweikert: I read your recent account of your first weeks in Congress. You omitted your stand-out moments: Before your election, you promised to "be there to represent your interests, not big-spending special interests. I will push for... reforms in Congress that will reduce the influence of lobbyists and special interests." But then in December, you invited lobbyists to a debt-retirement fundraiser with suggested contributions of $500 for an individual, $5,000 for a "benefactor." In your first week, you voted to oppose requiring members of Congress to come clean about whether they were going to sign on for government health care, violating a second campaign pledge to make Congress more transparent. In your second week, you signed up for taxpayer-funded health care coverage for you and your family (members of whom have prior conditions) for yourself, even though you campaigned against government-funded health care for others. In your third week, you enthusiastically voted to repeal health care reform, a hypocritical and mean-spirited gesture that your constituents will not forget in the weeks to come. Congressman, do you really see no contradiction in personally benefitting from a federally sponsored plan while denying others their basic health-care rights? Lauren Kuby, Tempe |
