Chandler Police lie about value of seized marijuana

Chandler cops say pot costs $2,000 to $5,000 a pound - Wonder how much weed they smoked before they came up with that number? - "the approximate street value ranged from $664,000 to $1.7 million ($2,000 to $5,000 a pound)"

I suspect a better number would be a retail value of $50 an ounce which would be a retail price of $800 a pound.

Of course if somebody is selling pot by the pound the wholesale value would probably be a max of $400 a pound, which isn't anywhere close to the $2,000 to $5,000 figure quoted by the lying Chandler police.

The Chandler police are just making up wild numbers to inflate the value of the drugs they seized. Why on earth does the Mayor of Chandler allow his police force to make up such wild lies?

Police discover marijuana operation in Chandler home

By Mike Sakal, Tribune East Valley Tribune

A Chandler man accused of running a sophisticated marijuana growing operation out of his residence has been shut down after police noticed an aroma of pot wafting into the street while conducting a recent traffic stop.

Sir Jorien Marcette Jackson, 25, was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession-related offenses in the 700 block of South Jesse Street on Sunday after officers executed a search warrant at the home where Jackson had lived since October, according to Detective Dave Ramer, a Chandler police spokesman.

Police patrol officers recently conducted a traffic stop near the house and smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the home before they obtained a search warrant and discovered 332 potted marijuana plants inside.

Officers said Jackson had an elaborate pot growing operation equipped with lamps and a watering system running throughout the house.

"He was doing everything he could to cultivate those buds," Ramer said. "It was a fully-equipped operation. He was cultivating it and preparing it for sale.

With each marijuana plant producing about a pound of pot a year, the approximate street value ranged from $664,000 to $1.7 million ($2,000 to $5,000 a pound), depending on the quality of it, according to Ramer.

Ramer said that it was unusual for a patrol unit to make that large of a marijuana bust and believed it was the biggest one made by patrol officers in the city.

"This was great police work," Ramer said. "Usually, patrol will make an arrest and turn it over to the narcotics unit, but for patrol officers to make a marijuana bust that big is phenomenal."

Chandler police find large pot growing operation

The Arizona Republic - 12 News Breaking News Team

What started out as a routine traffic stop Sunday night led patrol officers to seize 332 potted marijuana plants worth up to $1 million, making it the largest marijuana grow operation bust in Chandler history, spokesman Det. David Ramer said.

Following an unrelated traffic stop nearby, officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from a residence at 748 S. Jesse St., police said.

Police attempted contact with the homeowner that night but were unsuccessful.

Neighbors told police that the previous owners had moved out of the residence months before and since then they had witnessed a suspicious man coming in and out of the house at odd times, using only the garage.

Police were able to identify large growing lights inside the home and noticed the walls were lined with plastic sheeting, police said. The house appeared empty with no furniture and only a makeshift bed.

A search warrant was served Monday and the suspect, 25-year-old Jorien Dwyane Marcette Jackson, was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, producing marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Inside the home, Chandler police located a large, elaborate marijuana growing operation complete with indoor grow lights and watering systems. Police also found three ounces of marijuana in bags and cash. Jackson later admitted he had leased the house with the sole purpose of growing and selling marijuana, police said.

Jackson currently had two other active warrants for his arrest, police said. Information on those cases was not immediately available.

Of the 332 plants seized, 182 plants were fully mature with about 150 plants a week away from fully maturing. Police estimate that if the entire operation had fully matured, the plants total value could have ranged from $600,000 to more than $1 million, Ramer said.
